I’m Glad to Meet You!

I’m Monica! I’m a Kalamazoo-based multimedia producer. I’ve spend the past 10 years creating photos and video with Lawrence Productions.

I grew up in a creative family and was only 12 when I first began to film and edit videos. I had never considered a multimedia career until I took a college class in documentary photography with photojournalist David Turnley. I fell in love with photography as a storytelling medium as well as an avenue for growth and connection with others.

Photojournalism is still the stylistic thread that runs through my work. I see so much beauty in the way people interact naturally and I want to share it with the world. I like to think of a photoshoot as a collaborative project. My primary artistic medium isn’t my camera or photoshop, it’s YOU. I love getting up close and personal, learning about my subjects and creating something unique out of the everyday details of their personal stories.

Whether we’re capturing memories that you’ll revisit for generations or trying to make your product stand out in a sea of online content, I’m obsessed with capturing color, crispness, and just a dash of drama.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me reading and researching my favorite nerdy subjects— history, comparative religion, culture and science. I also love drawing, belly dancing, gardening, going to concerts and zipping around town on my eBike, connecting with my community, and spending time with my family.
